EBOLA VIRUS AND IT CAUSE

THE ORIGIN OF EBOLA VIRUS

Ebola virus has it origin from West Africa. And it was formally called Ebola-like viruses and it belong to a virus family Filoviridae member of the genus Ebolavirus. The name Ebolavirus is derived from the Ebola River in Zaire where the Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976. This genus was introduced in 1998 as the "Ebola-like viruses". In 2002 the name was changed to Ebolavirus.

Type of Ebola virus

There are five type of Ebola virus known. And four of these cause Ebola virus disease are in humans, a type of hemorrhagic fever. while the other one is find in primate.

The five virus species recognized are:

  1. Bundibugyo ebolavirus,
  2. Reston ebolavirus,
  3. Sudan ebolavirus,
  4. Taï Forest ebolavirus (originally Côte d'Ivoire ebolavirus).
  5. Zaire ebolavirus, itself
  6. sometimes called simply "Ebola virus"

Classification

The genera Ebolavirus and Marburgvirus were originally classified as the species of the now-obsolete Filovirus genus. In March 1998, the Vertebrate Virus Subcommittee proposed in the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) to change the Filovirus genus to the Filoviridae family with two specific genera: Ebola-like viruses and Marburg-like viruses. This proposal was implemented in Washington, DC on April 2001 and in Paris on July 2002. In 2000, another proposal was made in Washington, D.C., to change the "-like viruses" to "-virus" resulting in today's Ebolavirus and Marburgvirus.

Cause Of Ebola Virus

Ebola Virus is caused by four of five viruses classified in the genus Ebolavirus, family Filoviridae, order MononegaviralesBundibugyo virus (BDBV), Ebola virus (EBOV),Sudan virus (SUDV), Taï Forest virus (TAFV). The fifth virus, Reston virus (RESTV).

Sign & Symptoms of Ebola virus

The symptoms start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus with a fever, throat and muscle pains, and headaches. There is then nausea, vomiting and diarrhea along with decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys. At this point some people begin to have problems with bleeding.

One can be infected when he/she comes into contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected animal such as a monkey or fruit bat.

It can also be spread from one person to another through the use of sharp object once infection occur.

it can also be transmitted sexually

Prevention

To prevent the outbreak of this Ebola virus involves decreasing the spread of the disease from infected monkeys and pigs to humans and this maybe done by checking these animals for infection and make sure that killing are done properly, and  disposing of the bodies if the disease is discovered

Properly cooking meat and wearing protective clothing when handling meat may be helpful, as may wearing protective clothing and washing hands when around someone sick with the disease.

Samples from people with the disease should be handled with an extra degree of caution.

Treatment

There is no specific treatment for the virus with efforts to help people including
giving the person either oral rehydration therapy or intravenous fluids.
